The day finally came for our trip to Lekki Conservation Center and Atican Beach and all our Tambollo Travellers were super excited. We had 2 pick up points one on the mainland and the other on the island in Lagos. The mainland point was to depart by 8:30am and the island at 9:30. However, based on logistics most travellers got to the pick up points 30 mins late but this didn’t still affect our timing.
We arrived at Lekki Conservation Centre at 11:30 and started the tour. Our tour guide was called IBK written as “Hai Bee Kay” on her shirt she was so funny and we loved her. If you happen to visit Lekki Conservation centre anytime as her if she remembers the Tambollo Crew and I’m sure she would just laugh.
She took us round and gave a detailed description of all the animals and plants we could find at the conservation centre. She stated all their botanical names and we were really impressed. After about 15 mins we finally got to the canopy walk which is the longest in Africa and immediately it hit the travellers that we were actually there. It was a mixture of fear, anxiety and excitement for most travellers. Luckily no one dropped out.. whoop. We walked the canopy in batches-6 in a group. This was funny because you could hear the first batch screaming and laughing and you are just like, please how did I convince myself to do this. We had so many characters- the bold ones, the lets just get done with this thing, the I am never trying this in my life again and the YOLO ones. It was an amazing experience and we could see a beach from the canopy walk( most likely Atican). To think we were 22.5 metres above the ground was really cool and this pushed most of our travellers out of their comfort zone.
After the last group was done we took a walk to the fish ponds and passed through a gigantic Chess and Dart board area. We played a game for a while and then set off to Atican Beach.
Atican Beach is about 30 mins away from the Lekki Conservation Centre . Atican beach is a private beach and one of the best things to happen to Lagos. Its very beautiful, CLEAN, has an amazing scenery and you can smell the fresh air of the ocean. It is a family friendly beach and ideal for everyone- groups, couples and friends . It’s actually a resort so it has a restaurant and hotel also. They have graffiti walls which I feel is super cool and a DJ that plays all through the day. Food at the beach is in abundance and there are Cabanas/huts available. Lastly the beach is SAFE!!. You don’t need to worry you are in good hands
When we arrived at Atican we all relaxed for a bit and tried to get over the fact that we were just 22.5 metres above the ground…Awesome!. We later ate lunch (Rice and Chicken) and our tambollo chef started doing what she loves doing best. We had straight from the fire small chops, fries and Corn dogs rolling throughout the day, along with a lot of snacks. We had a water fight first with our water guns. This was a major ice breaker within 5 mins everyone became family which was so cool.
We then kicked started our beach activity with our balloon bursting game done with your bum..Lool. Our travellers were divided into teams to make it very competitive. After this we moved on to our Three legged race game which was one of the major highlights of the day.
Later we decided to play Concentration and the Lemon Game. It was surprising because we played this for like 2hrs and we still had so many board games to play- chess, snakes and ladders, monopoly, a travel board game and a puzzle team game. We got so into the concentration and lemon game and we just ignored the board games. Our travellers are so creative. We came up with so many ways that people that lost had the most hilarious time ever- Tapioca and Ketchup. Tapioca is a starch made from cassava roots. Its made into a pudding and is really nice with evaporated milk/cassava flakes.
It was time for horse riding and everyone had a horse to ride. This was so interesting because it felt like some Polo event.
There was “mini roller coaster” at the beach that was operated manually. This was so scary but fun and very safe.It actually looked like it was going to be an easy ride but boyyy was it scary and our travellers had a great time doing this.
At Tambollo we believe so much in our trips being a balance of adventure and relaxation. Rest is so important. So after all our super active and fun day we allowed everyone do their own thing. Some travellers took a walk round the beautiful beach, bought african made crafts and also networked. So many of our travellers have become very good friends and we are happy about this!. Our Community is growing…yaayy!
We ended the day with a Bonfire which was super super cool. Our trip ended well and we are so excited to have had the most Vibrant Travellers ever.
TRAVEL THE TAMBOLLO WAY!
